These handmade wooden doll sets are made on a sitting lathe machine by artisans of Karnataka, with locally sourced soft wood. The yellow is derived from turmeric and the red from a seed of a tree mixed with naturally occurring lacquer collected from local forests.
The dolls depict a traditional South Indian couple, the Kuppuswamys and their off-springs.
