Bronze Sculptures
Private Residence, Ahmadabad, 2013-14

Chola bronzes, as they as popularly called, originated during the Chola Period of Medieval India. The bronzes have roots in the ancient Vedic seers who crafted poetic images of the elements of nature.

The bronze sculptures depicted here were made in a village near Tanjore over a period of eight months, and depict a lover waiting for her beloved.

Created by a process of lost-wax casting, the sculptures are based on research done on sculptures in the Chola temples of the region and period, and have been reinterpreted. Here they can be seen in the air from cantilevered ledges on the wall.
